The American Mayors Legacy Project will provide historians with a perspective which
chronicles how these leaders addressed the varied issues facing urban centers. The mayor
is the central figure in most cities, usually playing an important role in establishing
policy priorities in the area of public safety, budgeting, economic development, health
care access, quality of life issues as well as appointing key individuals to help govern
